If you are a member of the profession
Derby & District Law Society is a membership-only organisation which exists to represent and to further the interests of the Solicitor's profession within the Society's local area.
We act as a forum within which members of the profession can meet to discuss developments in the content and/or conduct of the law which affect them and/or their clients locally, and make representations to decision-makers. We do this via a series of ten specialist Sub-Committees:
- Professional & Regulatory Purposes
- Finance
- Education & Training
- Civil Litigation
- Family Law
- Property Law
- Probate, Wills, Trusts & Elderly Client
- Business & Employment Law
We forge links via our PR and Parliamentary Liaison Officer with local MPs, MEPs and other key local regional and national figures of influence. We organise a local programme of accredited CPD training events (click Training button for details of current courses) which allow members of the profession to maintain their knowledge of the law for the benefit of their clients, and to develop business management skills.
We organise social events which provide opportunities to meet, mix and network for both business and social purposes, culminating in the hugely popular Annual Dinner held in February each year.
We publish a six-weekly Bulletin to keep Members up to date with what is going on locally.
We also offer a dedicated telephone line (01283 815030) for the use of both the public and the profession for dealing with general enquiries.
Management structure
The Society is managed on a day-to-day basis by an Administator, under the direction of the Full Committee, which meets bi-monthly. Chaired by the President, the Full Committee also comprises the Hon. Secretary, Hon. Treasurer, Vice-President, Deputy Vice-President, Immediate Past President (the six Officers) and up to 18 ordinary Members . A Standing Committee comprising theSociety's Officers also meets as required.
The Officers and Committee members are appointed/reappointed each year at the AGM, held in April or May each year.
