All newly-admitted solicitors are required to attend this course at some point during their first 3 years post-admission, so whether you have qualified during the recent past or are due to qualify between now and September 2010 - or you know of a colleague in a similar position - you may wish to talk to your supervisor/training manager about booking on this course. The following 3 main management topics will be covered:

3. Managing People - Planning human resources requirements; Drawing up Job Descriptions; Attracting the right candidate; Assesing and selecting people; Training and developing teams; Training and developing individuals; Setting objectives; Appraising performance; Developing your skill base
As an integral part of the course delegates are reqquired to spend at least one hour prior to the course itself researching their own organisation's systems and procedures by completing a pre-course questionnaire which will be sent out with the booking confirmation.
The course is presented by Robert Steele of Resource Training Ltd., who is accredited by the Law Society/SRA to deliver this course.
Any ideas for new courses?
Peter Ball has regular planning meetings with CLT so if you have any suggestions for topics to be added to the CPD programme let him have them before then.
In an effort to keep training costs down the Society is also looking to run course directly (as evidenced above), usually of between 1 and 2 hours’ duration, to be run at Derby University from 5.30 pm onwards to minimise loss of fee-earning time. Again, if you have any suggestions for suitable topics and/or suitable sources of speakers, please contact Peter Ball on 01283 815030 or at admin@derbylaw.ne
